Fire Inspection Coming Up? Check Your Fire Alarm Paperwork.

If an inspection is approaching and you are suddenly checking when the alarm was last serviced or where the certificate is, start with the current fire alarm setup. Find the servicing records, find the certification, and establish whether the system is in known working order.

Who this is for

  • Owners with an inspection date in the diary
  • Premises where nobody is certain where the fire alarm paperwork is
  • Businesses who have changed hands, moved or changed provider recently

Why records matter before anything else

A fire alarm system tells you very little on its own. The records tell you when it was last attended, what was tested and what was found.

If those records cannot be produced, the honest position is that the status of the system is unknown, and that is worth establishing before somebody else asks.

The Fire Services Act 1981 places duties on persons having control of certain premises to take reasonable measures in relation to fire safety, and provides authorised fire authority personnel with inspection powers in relevant circumstances. What that means for your specific premises is a matter for the relevant authority or a suitably qualified professional.

Where FirePulse fits

FirePulse puts the monitored fire alarm, servicing and the relevant servicing certification under one monthly contract, so the records and the documentation sit in one place with ADS Group.

What FirePulse does not do is cover every fire safety responsibility a premises may have, and it does not promise an inspection outcome. It handles the alarm, its servicing and its certification.

What is included

  • A survey of the current system and its records
  • Monitored alarm, servicing and certification under one contract afterwards
  • One supplier to ask when paperwork is requested

What we do not claim

  • We do not say FirePulse guarantees that a business will pass an inspection.
  • We do not state what your premises is legally required to do. That depends on the premises.
  • We do not claim an inspection will or will not happen at your premises.

How it works

Find the records

Servicing records and certification for the alarm system, in one place.

Establish the status

If nobody can say when it was last serviced, treat the status as unknown.

Survey

Have the system and setup looked at. A nominal survey charge applies and is credited against your FirePulse contract if you proceed.

Put it on one contract

Monitored alarm, servicing and certification together under FirePulse.

The work is carried out by ADS Group engineers. ADS Group has been trading since 2003 and holds more than 1,300 active contracts.

Common questions

What should I do if an inspection is coming up?

Start with the fire alarm servicing records and the certification issued with them. If they cannot be found, arrange for the system to be looked at.

What fire alarm paperwork should a business keep?

The servicing records for the system and the certification issued, kept together and findable by somebody other than you.

Will FirePulse make sure I pass?

No. No fire alarm supplier can promise an inspection outcome. FirePulse handles the monitored alarm, servicing and certification.

My alarm is old but still working. What should I do?

Have it looked at rather than assume either way. Our guide on older systems sets out what to check.

Is there a charge for the survey?

There is a nominal survey charge, credited against your FirePulse contract if you proceed.
