Changing fire alarm provider: what should a business check?

Before changing fire alarm provider, check your notice period and remaining term, ask your current provider for copies of your servicing records, and confirm how monitoring will continue through the changeover.

Check the agreement you are already in

Most maintenance agreements have a term and a notice period. Read them before giving notice, and note any amount outstanding.

A new supplier cannot release you from an existing agreement, and any supplier who implies otherwise is worth a second look.

Ask for your records

Your servicing history is useful whoever services the system next. Request copies of the servicing records and any certification issued before the relationship ends.

Questions for the new supplier

Written answers to those five questions make two quotes comparable.

  • What exactly is in the monthly or annual figure?
  • What is not included, and what triggers an additional charge?
  • Is monitoring included, and what happens on an out of hours activation?
  • Who holds the servicing records and certification?
  • Can the system already installed be taken on, or does it need work?

How FirePulse handles a changeover

The premises is surveyed so we can say what is installed and what can be carried across. You then get the scope and the monthly figure in writing before anything changes. After that, the monitored alarm, servicing and certification sit on one contract with ADS Group.
